On 10 October 2024, the Shalom Institute of Mental Health & Research (SIMHAR) actively participated in a special World Mental Health Day programme organised by Kerala Kaumudi, celebrating this year's theme — “Prioritise Mental Health at the Workplace.” The event highlighted the importance of fostering supportive work environments where mental health is a priority.
The programme featured insightful speeches by SIMHAR's key representatives, Dr. Sneha Leya Thomas and Mr. Roy Thomas, who emphasised the significance of workplace mental health. Their talks shed light on the importance of mental health awareness and creating spaces where employees feel supported and understood. They underscored how early intervention, counselling and a strong support system can lead to healthier, more productive workplaces.
A standout moment during the programme was the special recognition awarded to SIMHAR for its exceptional contributions to mental health care in Kerala. Dr. Sneha Leya Thomas proudly accepted the award, symbolising the institute's unwavering dedication to mental health services. From psychiatric care and psycho-social rehabilitation to de-addiction programmes, SIMHAR has been at the forefront of addressing mental health issues, making meaningful impacts across the state.
The programme was enriched by the participation of several distinguished guests, including a prominent representative from the Kerala Police, who spoke on how law enforcement is increasingly aligned with mental health support. Their collaborative efforts with institutions like SIMHAR reinforce the importance of cross-sector partnerships in promoting mental wellness and safety.
At SIMHAR, the organisation believes that prioritising mental health at work is not just a necessity, but a responsibility.
